Vinification of Barthenau Vigna San Michele Pinot Blanc South Tyrol by J.Hofstätter

The Barthenau winery is located at an altitude of 450 m asl. Here the grapes grow in the Vigna San Michele, a vineyard on a slight slope, the soils consist of a conglomerate of clay, lime and porphyry. The ideal sunlight, the good ventilation offer the best conditions for optimal ripening of the grapes, the change between warm days and cool nights is a guarantee for high acidity and thus for the long shelf life of this layered wine.

The grapes are macerated for a few hours with the grape skins to highlight the fruitiness and only then gently pressed. After a slight clarification, fermentation takes place in large oak barrels and then ageing for 15 months on the fine yeast, which is stirred weekly (battonage). After bottling, the wine remains on the bottle for another 6 months before being sold.

The classification  "Vigna“ shows the origin of a layered wine in South Tyrol.
