The barrel-aged Markgräflerland Chardonnay SW from the Baden wine-growing region presents itself in the glass in a bright golden yellow. When swirling the wine glass, this white wine from Martin Waßmer reveals aromas of vineyard peach, peaches, quince, apples and pears, complemented by beech smoke, dark chocolate and firewood
This German wine delights with its elegantly dry flavors. It was bottled with only 2.3 grams of residual sugar. This is a real quality wine, which clearly stands out from simpler qualities and so this German wine enchants naturally with all dryness with the finest balance. Aroma does not necessarily need residual sugar. Due to its vital fruit acid, the Markgräflerland Chardonnay SW is impressively fresh and lively on the palate.
Vinification of the Martin Waßmer Markgräflerland Chardonnay SW
The balanced Markgräflerland Chardonnay SW from Germany is a single-varietal wine, vinified from the Chardonnay grape variety. In Baden, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on soils of clay, limestone and loess. The Markgräflerland Chardonnay SW is an Old World wine in the best sense of the word, as this German wine breathes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underscores the success of Old World wines. Moreover, the fact that the Chardonnay grapes thrive under the influence of a rather cool climate has a considerable influence on the ripening of the vintage. Among other things, this manifests itself in particularly long and evenly ripened grapes and rather moderate alcohol content in the wine
After the harvest, the grapes are quickly taken to the press house. Here they are sorted and carefully broken up. Fermentation then takes place in small wood at controlled temperatures. At the end of fermentation, the Markgräflerland Chardonnay SW is aged for several months in French oak barrels.
Food recommendation for the Markgräflerland Chardonnay SW by Martin Waßmer
This German wine is best enjoyed moderately chilled at 11 - 13°C. It is perfect as an accompanying wine to spinach gratin with almonds, rocket penne or leek soup.
