History and interesting facts about Branaire-Ducru
The vineyard of Château Branaire Ducru is located in the south of the Saint-Julien appellation in Médoc. Its beginnings date back to Jean Baptiste-Braneyre. He acquired land here in the early 18th century. in 1875, the second part of the name was added by its new owner. It is classified as "Quatrième Grand Cru Classé". The vineyard covers an area of 50 hectares, divided into small plots. It is planted with 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. The grapes are harvested by hand, completely destemmed and then vinified for about three weeks. One third of the yield makes the so-called malolactic acid transformation already in new oak barrels, the rest is made in tank. This is followed by joint aging in half new barriques (18 to 24 months). As a result, the wines of Château Branaire-Ducru have a good spice, are fruity, distinctive and individual.
