Dedicated to wine with body and soul
Michel Tesseron, the owner of the famous Château Lafon-Rochet, likes to talk about the "soul of the family" in reference to his wines. Château Lafon-Rochet, whose wines are classified as "Grand Cru Classé," is located in Saint-Estèphe, a gorgeous wine-growing region in Bordeaux. Château Lafon-Rochet is a French winery that has literally been reborn. Although the origins of the estate date back to the 17th century, the "Tesseron era" began in 1960 when Guy Tesseron purchased the property. Since taking over the estate, Château Lafon-Rochet has been owned by the Tesseron family. Basile Tesseron, son of the current owner, is an equally passionate winemaker who continues the ideals and dreams of his father Michel and grandfather Guy. Together they believe that the soul of the Tesseron family is in the wines that see the "light of day" in the cellar of Château Lafon-Rochet.
The best treatment for the creation of premium wines
The soils of the Saint-Estèphe wine-growing region are rich in clay and limestone, which makes the grape varieties not only exceptionally long-lived, but also very tannic and dark. With a share of 57 percent, Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the estate's main grape varieties, while Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc play a smaller role. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand so that the delicate berries, which are transported in small wooden crates, reach the winery as undamaged as possible. In addition to a premium wine, which accounts for about 60 percent of total production, Château Lafon-Rochet also produces a second wine that recalls the time of the pilgrims who were on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
