Celebrating a winemaking tradition of over 55 years
Columbia Winery has embodied the spirit of unique and exceptional Washington vineyards, its rich diversity, warm and inviting character for more than 50 years.
The Spirits of the Founding Fathers
Columbia Winery was founded in 1962 on a vision of 10 friends, six of whom were Washington professors.
It was the result of an unwavering curiosity and commitment to prove and establish the potential of Columbia Valley viticulture. Being on the same latitude as the best wine growing regions of Europe, they knew the good basic conditions for unique wines.
Perfect slopes
In 1979 the wine master David Lake was appointed head winemaker. He immediately implemented the new spirit of the founding fathers, as this was one of the main concerns of those and was particularly strongly promoted and appreciated under their leadership. Under David's leadership, the Columbia wineryin Washington produced the first series of hillside and classic wines, for example, with the varieties Pinot Gris, Syrah and Cabernet Franc.
The desire for innovation with tradition continues today thanks to the leadership of winemaker Sean Hails. He is expanding the list, of award winning and critically acclaimed wines and he is accomplishing this primarily by harvesting from renowned vineyard sites such as:
- Valley Red Mountain
- Horse Heaven Hills
- Ancient Lakes
