The vibrant ruby red Niepoort Fabulous Douro Tinto shows purple reflections and shimmers with medium density color in the glass. The lively fragrant nose of this red wine cuvée from Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela and other grape varieties convinces with fresh, deep and very intense aromas of wild berries, juicy blackberries and some plum. Sweet spices and herbaceous tea leaf blend harmoniously with the balsamic character of the fabulous Douro Tinto.
On the palate, the Fabulous Tinto reveals an elegant, voluminous and youthful-fresh taste with a noticeably mineral profile. A beautiful, lively fruit acid and soft tannins complete the balanced palate feeling.
In addition to the contents, the exterior of the red wine bottle is also remarkable at Fabulous Tinto. Dirk Niepoort chose a story by Wilhelm Busch, currently that of the raven Hans Huckebein. His life ends badly, not least through the consumption of alcohol, and has shaped the concept of the disaster raid to this day. Fables like Pickebein are the reason Niepoort gave this wine series the name Fabulous - and they taste so!
Dirk Niepoort has proven with the Fabulous Tinto that characterful red wines from Portugal are possible at a fair price. Not only that, with his Wilhelm Busch label he has also visually created a wine that can be recognized immediately.
Vinification of Fabulous Tinto
The harvest starts at the beginning of September, with the grapes for Fabulous Douro wines being harvested primarily with a focus on freshness, acidity and fruit. Especially overripe grapes should be avoided for the fabulous Douro Tinto.
After selection of the harvested material in the cellar, the grapes were destemmed, mashed and fermented. After fermentation, 15% of the wine matured for 12 months in French oak barrels (second course).
Food recommendation for the Fabulous Wine Tinto von Niepoort
Enjoy this Portuguese red wine with pasta with spicy vegetable or meat sauces, with pizza and with dishes with beef or pork.
