More information about HILLside - Leo Hillinger
In the glass, the organically produced Hill Side from the pen of Leo Hillinger offers a bright light red color. When swirling the glass, one can perceive a first-class balance in this red wine, as it stands out on the walls of the glass neither watery nor syrupy or liqueur-like. The bouquet of this red wine from Burgenland seduces with nuances of black cherry, plum, plum and morello cherry. If we trace the aromatics further, oak, oriental spices and vanilla are added.
The Leo Hillinger Hill Side presents itself wonderfully dry to the wine lover. This red wine never shows itself coarse or meager, as one might expect from a wine premium and site wine segment. On the tongue, this balanced red wine is characterized by an incredibly dense and velvety texture. The finale of this well-maturing red wine from the wine-growing region the Burgenland, more precisely from Lake Neusiedl, finally impresses with considerable reverberation. The finish is also accompanied by mineral facets of the soils dominated by loess soil and volcanic rock.
Vinification of the Leo Hillinger Hill Side
The basis for the balanced Hill Side from the Burgenland are grapes from the grape varieties Merlot, Shiraz and Zweigelt. In Burgenland, the vines that produce the grapes for this wine grow on soils of loess, volcanic rock and black earth. Hill Side is an Old World wine through and through, as this Austrian exudes an extraordinary European charm that clearly underscores the success of Old World wines. When perfectly ripe, the grapes for Hill Side are harvested exclusively by hand without the aid of crude and less selective machinery. After the harvest, the grapes arrive at the winery by the fastest route. Here they are sorted and carefully broken up. Fermentation then takes place in small wood at controlled temperatures. Fermentation is followed by aging for several months on the fine lees before the wine is finally drawn off.
