Production of the archivist's Jericho Blended Malt Scotch Whisky from The Lost Distillery
The pious distiller William Smith founded the Jericho Distillery in Aberdeenshire, the Highlands, in 1822, named after the Jordan Burn spring. As an agricultural distillery, Jericho produced the whiskies using only local produce and was one of the earliest distilleries to mature their whiskies in sherry barrels. In 1884 it was renamed Benachi, but due to its seclusion it was closed in 1913. Almost a hundred years later in 2014, the style of Jericho Distillery is revived with this whisky.
Archivist's Selection Jericho Whisky is made from the marriage of old single malt whiskies, which then matures in sherry barrels.
The Lost Distillery Company, with the help of a team of whisky historians, revisits the production method and taste profiles of the former distilleries. By marrying single malts of different distilleries in the specific Scottish regions and using the given resources, they manage to reinterpret whiskies that have long since disappeared.
