Antoniolo's Le Castelle Gattinara DOCG is intensely ruby to garnet red in the glass. Complex fruity and spicy aromas dominate the bouquet, fragrances of strawberries, raspberries, cassis, violet, black cherry, leather, tobacco, black pepper, mineral and earthy notes alternate and complement each other. On the palate, this spouse surprises with distinctive, well-integrated tannins, pleasant freshness, clear, full body, spicy, powerful, silky and full of character. Beautiful and very sustainable, almost endless finale with fine mineral nuances in the finish.
Vinification of Le Castelle Gattinara DOCG by Antoniolo
Le Castelle is the only wine of Antoniolo that is made in barriques. The Nebbiolo grapes for this cru come from the 1.3 ha single layer of the same name. Here are vines that are on average 40 years old, the soils are deeper and richer than in the other two individual layers, which gives the Gattinara more strength and depth.
After maceration and alcoholic fermentation on the shells in concrete tanks, the must is removed and transferred into barriques. Here the malolactic fermentation is carried out completely, followed by 24 months of ageing. After bottling, Le Castelle matures in the bottle for at least 12 months before being sold.
Le Castelle Gattinara is produced in small quantities, only about 3000 bottles per year. The wine can be stored for over 20 years.
