More information about Papale Linea Oro Primitivo di Manduria DOP - Varvaglione
The Papale Linea Oro Primitivo di Manduria from Varvaglione is even bigger, denser and more concentrated than its little brother - the classic Papale Primitivo. This complex red wine of Apulian character is a dense ruby red with an almost black, purple-red core in the glass.
The bouquet of Papale Linea Oro is dominated by ripe berries such as blackberries, blueberries and redcurrants. Spicy nuances of plum jam, cassis and redcurrant jam as well as oak, dark cocoa and vanilla and a little cinnamon stick complete the bouquet of the Papale Linea Oro Primitivo di Manduria from Varvaglione.
On the palate, the Papale Linea Oro (the golden line of the autumnal wine) is wonderfully round, full-bodied and silky. The fine fruity sweetness, together with soft tannins, makes for a very special kind of red wine enjoyment.
Vinification of the Papale Primitivo di Manduria Linea Oro from Varvaglione
Varvaglione only uses grapes from very old vines for its Papale flagship. After harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and the berries are crushed. Fermentation then takes place at 26-28°C in stainless steel. After the subsequent malolactic fermentation, the Papale Linea Oro is matured in French oak tonneaux and American oak barriques for at least 10 months.
The Papale wine series was launched on the occasion of Varvaglione's 90th anniversary, which was celebrated in 2012. The "papal" wine takes its name from the vineyard where the grapes for the Papale Primitivo grow, as it once belonged to the family of Pope Benedict XIII.
Wine recommendation for the Varvaglione Papale Linea Oro
Enjoy this select Primitivo from old vines with hearty and spicy meat dishes such as Moroccan tajine with lamb, zucchinis and dates or with grilled entrecôte or lamb salmon.
