The San Francesco Gattinara DOCG by Antoniolo is presented in the glass ruby red with distinct garnet red nuances. On the nose, an elegant aroma fan opens with fruity, floral and spicy scents, cherries, wild berries, pepper, sweet spices, rust, leather and noble mineral nuances. Intense and complex on the palate, tastefully aromatic, mineral notes with delicate iron notes, full-bodied, round, robust tannins, with lots of potential. The finish is powerful, long, mineral and sustainable.
Vinification of San Francesco Gattinara DOCG by Antoniolo
The Cru San Francesco embodies the "ancient and full-bodied soul" of the red Nebbiolo wines in the north of Piedmont, reserved and somewhat tart in character. The 4 hectares vineyard of the same name, on which the Nebbiolo grapes for this wine grow, stands on soils of volcanic origin and is completely oriented to the west.
After maceration for about two weeks and alcoholic fermentation in concrete tanks, the must is transferred into wooden barrels in which malolactic fermentation and ageing take place. It is aged for 30 months in large wooden barrels and then matured for a further 12 months in bottle storage before being sold.
The San Francesco Gattinara DOCG can be stored for 10 to 15 years.
The quantity is limited to about 4000 bottles per year.
