More information

The Valle Central wine region of Chile is home to Miguel Torres' Santa Digna Carmenère Gran Reserva grape variety.

The rich red colour of this wine is reminiscent of juicy cherries. The expressive bouquet reveals intense aromas of dark berries - especially blackberry and blackcurrant. This is accompanied by fine, balsamic notes, subtle hints of eucalyptus and a hint of mandarin. The palate is dominated by the elegant dark fruit. The sweet tannins are accompanied by spicy notes of black pepper and some liquorice. Thanks to the wood finish, this Chilean red wine still has delicate toast nuances. The body is wonderfully dense with a velvety texture that accompanies in the long reverberation.

In Chile, the crossroads that marked the transition from urban to rural areas were called Santa Digna. They acted as a kind of boundary stone that represented the symbol of growth and prosperity and promised all protection that moved from one area to another.

Vinification  of Santa Digna Carmenère Gran Reserva

The Carmenère grapes will be harvested from mid-April in the vineyards of Valle Central. After the temperature-controlled fermentation (approx. 28 degrees Celsius) of 7 days, the mash remains on the berry skins for another month. Wood ageing for this wine is carried out in Nevers oak barrels for a total of 12 months. After that, this wine rests on the bottle for another 3 months.

Food recommendation for the Miguel Torres Gran Reserva Carmenère Santa Digna

Enjoy this dry red wine from Chile with spicy meat dishes - especially game and red meat from the grill - or with smoked sausage specialities.
