Four centuries of history and wine culture
The Tedeschi family can easily look back on four centuries of history and experience in viticulture, in one of the most famous wine-growing areas of northern Italy, Valpolicella. The belief in the great potential of viticulture in this region, has led to the fact that with the change of generations, especially in the last century, with a lot of innovative spirit and foresight, the winemaking has always taken on new impulses. Taking into account and emphasizing the terroir, powerful wines, characteristic of the region and with a strong personality are produced.
Starting point terroir and tradition
From Valpolicella to impressive Amarone wines and sweet Recioto, the grapes are grown and worked in the family's own vineyards. One of the main focuses of the work is in the vineyard, in the very attentive care of the vines, because a good wine is already born in the refined interaction of soil, microclimate and grapevine training. The wines of the Tedeschi family impress with freshness and elegance, liveliness and finesse. A prerequisite for this style is high altitude vineyards and the greatest possible difference between day and night temperatures. Tenuta Maternigo's newest vineyards are among the highest in the entire Valpolicella area.
In winemaking, the family works with the most modern technologies, yet completely respectful of tradition. The basic idea is to press wines that, in addition to elegance, focus on pleasure.
Recently, next to the Lucchine vineyard, the most modern facility in the region was built for drying the grapes using the Appassimento method.
The quest for elegance
The flagship of the winery is the Capitel Monte Olmi Amarone della Valpolicella Riserva, one of the first crus from a single vineyard, first pressed in 1964 and awarded the highest honors over the years. Monte Olmi is the Tedeschis' only terraced vineyard, 2.5 hectares in size and facing southwest. The Amarone produced here delights with its complex aromas, intensity and polished tannins. In very special years, the single vineyard La Fabriseria at 450m above sea level, which otherwise yields a Valpolicella Superiore, also produces a multi-award winning, exceptionally aromatic and elegant Amarone.
Not only for these reasons, the wines of the Tedeschi winery are appreciated worldwide for their typicality and high quality and have been awarded several times by the best wine guides in the world.
