Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria DOC 2017 - Cantine San Marzano
The Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria from Cantine San Marzano is one of the great red wines of Apulia. Sessantanni Primitivo, the racy Italian red wine, is vinified from grapes over 60 years old vines and inspires with opulent fruit and delightfully spicy nuances of cinnamon, cedar wood and vanilla.
The Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria of the Cantine San Marzano is an unforgettably intense red wine from Italy, which inspires with its full body. Deep red in the glass, this red wine impresses with a multi-layered bouquet full of prunes, cherry compote, light tobacco, some anise and ripe wild berries.
Vinification of the Sessantanni
The hand-picked grapes for this noble red wine come from 60 year old vines rooted in barren soils rich in iron oxides. This explains the name, because Sessantanni stands for "of sixty year olds". The result is among other things a much lower yield, because these gnarled old vines produce only about 3000 kg per hectare of grapes per year. This yield, which is naturally reduced, also allows a particularly high quality of the individual grapes. The Scirocco, which blows from North Africa, clearly shapes the climate of the vineyards of the Cantine San Marzano in southern Italy.
It brings with it dry air that makes it difficult for fungi, insects and rot to clog the vines, making it almost possible to cultivate according to biological standards. 80% of the must is left on the mash for 18 days under temperature control. The remaining 20% for 25 days. This leads to an optimal extraction. The yeasts are vinous. After the Sessantanni is drawn off, it is aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels.
Tasting note/tasting of the Sessantanni
The Sessantanni Primitivo di Manduria of the Cantine San Marzano is a pure Primitivo, which appears with a deep ruby red in the glass. The nose reveals aromas of prunes, cherry jam and sweet spices such as cloves, cinnamon and vanilla. On the palate, the Sessantanni is well structured, full and fleshy with a wonderfully integrated acidity and soft yet characteristic tannins. In the impressively long finish of this red wine, berry and fruit aromas, spicy and tobacco notes come to the fore again.
Food recommendation for the Sessantanni
We recommend the Sessantanni as a solo entertainer. Thus it leaves its lasting impression without distractions. Nevertheless, this Primitivo is an excellent accompaniment to braised beef, lamb, wild boar or venison meat dishes as well as to fine dark chocolate. Enjoy this wine at a temperature of 18°C.

This is an excellent wine, surpassed by very few for us. Excellent delivery and service from outside the UK.
