The Argiano estate already began in the 16th century. It was the Sienese noble Pecci family who at that time wanted to see the construction of a magnificent Villa di Argiano.

The Argiano estate – top-quality wines for decades

The villa also included a wine cellar. All this took place on a hill that was oriented toward the River Orca in the southwestern part of Montalcino. Before long, the ownership structure of the Argiano estate would change, and even on a regular basis. After the property was taken over in the 1920s by Countess Noemi Marone Cinzano, the aristocrat focused on the production of high-quality Brunello di Montalcino. With the support of the Tuscan wine specialist Giacomo Tachis, it was possible to produce even more top-class wines.

Argiano estate

The Argiano estate brought up to date with organic methods and modernity

In addition to Brunello from Argiano, the estate of the same name devoted itself to producing the Super Tuscan Solengo. Moreover, the single-varietal Sangiovese Suolo has often been awarded a prize. Since wine connoisseur Giacomo Tachis was replaced in 2004 by wine expert Hans Vinding-Diers, this estate has focused on organic wine growing. Since then, mainly state-of-the-art wine processing techniques have been used at the estate. This founding member of the Brunello Consortium has been extremely successful for several decades. How is that achieved? High-quality growths are stored in the old cellar facilities during the maturation phase. The winemaking facilities, on the other hand, are located in cellars equipped with cutting-edge technology.

Harvest at Argiano

A well-ventilated bouquet of grape varieties at Argiano

In addition, the Argiano estate has made hospitality its motto. In the meantime, the winemakers run the agritourism Posta l'Orciaia, which comprises a total of 125 hectares, including 51 hectares of denominations together with woodland, vines, and olive trees. Since all the vineyard sites are optimally ventilated, wines of very fine quality thrive on site. The vineyards are lined with chalky soils and clay deposits, and with a distribution of around 7,000 plants per hectare, vine density is comparatively high. Annual production amounts to around 550,000 bottles. The repertoire of cultivated grape varieties includes:

  • Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Merlot
  • Syrah
  • Sangiovese di Montalcino
