A heart for Château Calon-Ségur
Château Calon-Ségur is a Troisième Grand Cru Classé winery in Bordeaux. It is located in the north of the village of Saint-Estèphe, in the middle of the appellation of the same name in the Médoc. Even before the classification of Bordeaux estates in 1855, Château Calon-Ségur was a name in the wine world; the then Marquis Alexandre de Ségur, also owner of Château Lafite and Château Latour, said of his estates:
"I grow my wine at Lafite and Latour. But my heart is in Calon."
This saying has survived to this day in the form of a heart on the bottle label.

The sea brought the land around Château Calon-Ségur
There are over fifty wineries in the Saint-Estèphe appellation, one of the four appellations of the Médoc. The land on the Medoc is a composition of different alluvial soils called terrace. The soils around Château Calon-Ségur consist of coarse gravel, sand and a yellow clay layer. Otherwise, other soil types can be found sporadically around Saint-Estèphe. Towards the seashore, the limestone content of the soil increases, giving the wines a special character.
After a low follows the high at Calon-Ségur
Château Calon-Ségur is in the typical winemaking tradition of Bordeaux, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes. The annual bottling volume is about 240,000 bottles. Château Calon-Ségur had to register a qualitative downturn in the 60s, so one remembered at the beginning of the 90s again on good craftsmanship and has since the middle of the same decade again reached traditional strength. Many awards since 1995 confirm this. In addition to the main wine, a second wine called Marquis de Ségur is also vinified.
