A château in Provence...

... in the Sleeping Beauty sleep

The Château d'Esclans lies sleepily in the center of the Var department, where most of the AOC rosés of Provence are produced. Despite its magnificent splendor, no one really wanted to kiss it awake. Until 2006, when Sacha Lichine finally awoke it from its long slumber.

... and his knight and his right hand man

He is not just a winemaker who fell in love with Château d'Esclans - Sacha Lichine came from Bordeaux and is the son of Alexis Lichine, the esteemed Bordeaux luminary and master of Cru Classé-Château Prieuré-Lichine in Margaux. His vision from the beginning was to vinify the best rosés in the world. For this he brought another Bordelais great to Château d'Esclans: Patrick Léon. 

... and its long history

 Of the original 12th century château, only the wine cellar remains today. The present Château, inspired by the design of the Tuscan villa, was built in the middle of the 19th century. The entire property of Château d'Esclans covers 267 hectares, of which 72.9 hectares are vineyards. 

... and its main vine

Grenache is the main grape grown on the property. The stock is considerable: the vines have great age and are rooted in calcareous and clayey soils. The further you go up the vineyards, the older the vines in your plots become. Some are up to 90 years old.  Not only Grenache is grown by Château d'Esclans, but also
