The history of the château
Château la Coustarelle is located on the right bank of the Lot River near the village of Prayssac. The origins of the domaine date back to 1870, when Paul Cassot settled in the area as a farmer. The farm was renamed Château La Coustarelle in 1947 by Pierre Cassot, representing the 3rd generation. The Château was named after the first parcel of vines planted at the "Coustarelle" site, which means "petit côteau" in Old French. In 1980, Michel Cassot, with the help of his wife Nadine, took over the management of the estate from his father Pierre, representing the fourth generation of the estate.

in 1992, Michel decided to produce and bottle his own wines. Thus, he left the local cooperative. He invested enormous time and effort to build the reputation of Château la Coustarelle. By the late 1990s, the estate was considered one of the best wineries in Cahors, having been selected along with twelve other wineries to have its vineyards and wines classified as Grand Cru. Unfortunately, the classification project was abandoned in 2002 due to the dissatisfaction of some wine growers with the overall classification. Today, some form of classification is still being considered.
5. Generation with a new spirit
In 2002, Caroline, Michel's daughter, representing the 5th generation, joined her father at the winery. Since 2007, she has been in charge of winemaking and managing the winery, but Michel is always around to offer advice and assistance when needed. Within a few years, she has made a name for herself by maintaining the high quality and typicity of the wines with a feminine touch. Since the 2010 vintage, her newly created regional white wine IGP Côtes du Lot has been very well received by French wine critics and the trade.
