Château les Fontenelles

Nicolas represents the third generation of winemakers at Château les Fontenelles. At the age of 21, he decided to settle down and vinify the wines of the estates directly on the property, which brought about a real transformation. in 1999, after graduating, Nicolas invested in his own wine cellar for winemaking with the support of his parents. This proved to be his true vocation! From the 2000 vintage, he began to realize his ability to express the characteristics of his territory. He regularly wins medals for all his wines.

Vineyards on the slope

The 28 ha vineyard is located on the slopes of Saint Julien, facing mainly south to allow maximum sun exposure from July to September. The exceptional territory of the Domaine is divided into two slopes: An east-facing slope with a limestone base and many stones, where most of the white grapes, Sauvignon and Sémillon, with a total of 13.5 hectares and a west-facing slope, where there is an old windmill, composed mainly of clay and some gravel, yielding small, well-ripened red grapes of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. 

The vineyard, with a density of 3300 vines / ha to 5000 vines / ha, is partially grassed to prevent erosion and to control the vitality of the vines, favoring the development of phenolic compounds: Aromas, color and tannins of the grapes.

The winery of Château les Fontenelles

The winery was built in one of the oldest and most authentic buildings of the estate. Between white stones and large exposed beams stands a battery of stainless steel tanks with a total capacity of 270,000 liters, partially thermoregulated. This modern equipment allows the Bourdil family to select and vinify block by block and ensures the traceability of the products of the estate from vinification to bottle.
