Château Saint Roch - Location

Château Saint Roch's 44 hectares of vines are located in the Maury area of the Agly Valley, 25 kilometres from Perpignan and the Mediterranean Sea. The Château de Quéribus, Kerbuccio, lies to the north of the vineyards. Each plot is lined with mulberry, fig, pomegranate, cherry and carob trees, as well as oaks, thyme, lavender and fennel. This is because an intact ecosystem is of paramount importance for good and meaningful wines.

Chateau Saint Roch Vallee del Agly

Château Saint Roch Soils

The area consists of clay-shale hills with a limestone base, the altitude varies between 120 and 370 meters. The Tramontana provides the necessary air circulation in this corridor between Fenouillèdes, and the Catalan sun bathes the Saint Roch vineyards in its light. Young Syrah grows on the hills of Canigou, grey Grenache and Macabeo in the valley, old vines of Grenache Noirs and Carignan around Cabirou. Muscat Petit Grain grows in the lower sites and Cabernet, Merlot and Mourvèdre on the edges of the domaine.

Château Saint Roch natural cultivation

Since 2001, Emma Florensa and her husband Marc Bournazeau have chosen to grow wines that reflect the Mediterranean terroir from which they come: authentic and exquisite. All work in the vineyard is done in harmony with nature, without the use of herbicides and only using organic fertilizers.

Château Saint Roch together with Lafage

Jean-Marc Lafage is a 7th generation winemaker's son! His dream came true, however, with the purchase of the Chateau Lafage estate and some exciting parcels around the village of Maury. The 44 hectares in total are all located in the Agly Valley, about 20 km northwest of Perpignan. It is a fairly barren and dry (the Tramontane blows here every 2nd day) and very warm region in summer, known for powerful red wines. Here are predominantly calcareous soils with slate marl, which are particularly mineral and distribute the little water that rains down here economically. The yield per vine (here almost only Gobolet) is low and concentrated. All red wines are Cuvées in different composition and from certain, selected plots. Very good red wines with a clear profile and clearly vinified.
