Chateau Sénéjac in the Haut Médoc

Its first known owner was a squire, Nicolas de Bloys, in the 16th century. He married Jeanne Fleix, lady of Blanquefort. Vines were probably planted there even then. In the 17th century, a great hunter, the Marshal of Ornano, Governor of Guyenne, took possession of the estate. In the mid-19th century, Sénéjac vinified the equivalent of 100,000 bottles, hardly less than today. in 1860, the Comte de Guigné acquires the estate.
New impetus to raise the estate to the level of the best Médoc wines came with the 1999 acquisition by Lorraine Cordier, also owner of Château Talbot, Grand Cru
classified estate of Saint Julien. After Lorraine Cordier's death in 2011, the estate was taken over by her sister Nancy Bignon Cordier, who continues to run it today.

Crus Bourgeois par excellence

Chateau Sénéjac is classified as a Cru Bourgeois. The vineyards of Sénéjac extend on a plateau that dominates the commune of Pian. The 39 hectares of vineyards in one piece are planted on deep gravelly soils, typical Medoc. 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, 37% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot, average age 35 years. In 1983, the entire vineyard was drained to allow better drainage of surface water. The vines are tended in a traditional way and with great care.
Sénéjac certainly has one of the best cellars among the Crus Bourgeois in Bordeaux. At harvest time, it manages to wait for the best ripening point for each grape variety. With its 17 temperature-controlled stainless steel vats, perfect management of the different plots is possible.
