Contadi Castaldi and the soul of Franciacorta
Contadi Castaldi, Franciacorta, a historic wine-growing area, a disused brickworks, a happy childhood. From these elements, in the 80's, one of the most innovative and modern sparkling wines and wineries in the region was born.
The name of the company recalls the millenary history of Franciacorta, Contadi were the medieval counties renowned for their excellent agricultural products, Castaldi were the count's administrators of these lands. In the 16th century, the fertile Franciacorta mainly supplied the patricians and Doges of the splendid Republic of Venice with agricultural products and, above all, wine.
But the area is also known for the activity of its people, who, in the course of industrialisation, opened up new economic sectors, including many brickworks. And at Fornace Biasca, Mariella, wife of entrepreneur Vittorio Moretti, spends the afternoons of a happy childhood with her godmother, who owns the factory. When the aunt closed the factory in the middle of the 20th century, Vittorio Moretti, out of love for his wife, took over the site with the old distillery and the farmstead on it.
Contadi Castaldi and the sense for wine
As Franciacorta develops into a high-quality, modern wine-growing region, Vittorio and Mariella Moretti decide to transform the old brickworks into a wine company. The size of the former factory, the length of the galleries where bricks used to be made, offer the best conditions and are ideal as aging cellars for the sparkling and still wines of Franciacorta, but also to welcome wine-loving visitors in the characteristic atmosphere of a Lombard estate. In this way, the former production site is given a new lease of life, from soil to vineyard, from brick to wine, with unique flair and passion.
Contadi Castaldi, more than any other company in Franciacorta, specializes in the art of innovation, always on the lookout for the best vineyards and the most passionate winegrowers in the area. This has brought together 92 different vineyards in prime locations, totalling 130 hectares, which give Contadi Castaldi's Franciacorta wines their terroir character and a wide range of aromas and flavours.

Contadi Castaldi and the sense of pleasurable aesthetics
Contadi Castaldi's twofold logo stylizes a phase of Franciacorta production: the bottom of the sparkling wine bottles stored in the storage boxes and the visual cross created by the arrangement between the bottoms of the bottles.
For the bottles, the winery has drawn inspiration from the aesthetics of the painters Morandi and Brancusi, with elegant, gentle curves and a shortened neck, while at the same time giving the impression of a charming, light creature with perfect shapes. The shorter neck and the rounder, broad-shouldered body of the bottle give the sparkling wine maturing inside more surface area for the fine lees to settle, much to the benefit of the flavours and aromas, the typical bouquet of a Franciacorta cuvée.
