In 1888, Grietje and hero Jan Hooghoudt had a great idea - one that brought together taste, color and fragrance  The idea took shape in a cellar on Oosterstraat in the center of Groningen. The couple carefully prepared spirits and regional drinks; they quickly discovered the diverse world of genever. It was the beginning of a long and wonderful journey of discovery that has continued ever since....

Now in its 4th generation, the family-run business still operates with the same love and passion for new flavors and distillates as they did back then. Master distiller Frank Leystra creates genever in which tradition and modernity come together.

De Borgen's range is inspired by the more than 400-year-old history of Dutch distilling.
