The name Pellehaut derives from the Roman word pila, which denotes a particularly powerful spear. Just as steeped in history as the name is the family history of the Béraut family, who own the Domaine de Pellehaut: for more than 300 years the family has lived and worked in Montréal-du-Gers and has made its living here from cultivating its wines. The family owns vineyards around the Château de Pellehaut – a castle about which many impressive legends are told.
The brothers Martin and Mathieu Béraut now manage the Domaine de Pellehaut winery and produce equally first-class and reasonably priced country wines here. The climate is characterized by many hours of sunshine and the warm föhn wind that blows down from the Pyrenees. The microclimatic conditions are ideal for cultivating, for example, Colombard, Ugni Blanc, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc and allow concentrated fruits to grow in terms of aroma. These are turned into enjoyable white wines at the Domaine de Pellehaut.
