An American Dream
Grace and Ken Evenstad first settled in the Dundee Hills in the Willamette Valley in 1989. By then, the couple had spent more than 20 years together in Minnesota, building a successful business, a loving family and a deep appreciation for Burgundy wines. The Evenstads had been early believers in Oregon, before there was a national market for Pinot Noir. When it came time to realize their long-held dream of growing and producing world-class Pinot Noir, they invested in a 42-acre hilltop vineyard in Oregon's beautiful Dundee Hills that had just been cleared. With the support of their family - and to the surprise of many of their friends in Minnesota - the Evenstads established Domaine Serene, launching the luxury wine industry in Oregon. They named the winery after their daughter Serene, and the first vineyard on the property was named after their son Mark Bradford Evenstad.
