Fürstlich Castell’sches Domänenamt

Today,the Castellvineyardin Franconia consistsof seven vineyard sites - the core of the 70-hectare estate. The surrounding vineyards of Schlossberg are characterized by the continental climate of Franconia and the strong gypsum-keuper soils of the Steigerwald. The first documented mention of the most important vineyard sites Schlossberg, Hohnart, Reitsteig and Trautberg dates back to 1266. Silvaner, first planted in Castell soil in 1659, is at home in the Franconian climate and soil, and occupies the majority of Castell's vineyards with almost 40 percent - it is part of our identity. In addition to other grape varieties, the winery also focuses on Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir.
