A successful wine family

The Henschke Winery was founded in 1861 by Johann Christian Henschke, a man from Silesia who moved to Australia to seek his fortune in winegrowing. His plan was to succeed. Today, with over 155 years of winemaking tradition, the Henschke winery is one of the oldest family wineries in the Eden Valley winegrowing region in southern Australia. The now very famous "Hill of Grace" was first produced in 1858 and was to be a milestone in the impressive success story of this winery. However, the first commercial Henschke wine vintage was not until 1868.

Henschke Winery - Tradition in the Vineyard, Modernity in the Cellar

Henschke remains a family business to this day. Stephen Carl Henschke has been the fifth generation to run the winery with great foresight since 1979. He is the son of Cyril Henschke and a very experienced cellar master. He enjoyed his education in Geisenheim in Germany and is considered the best proven expert. In the vineyards, his very sympathetic wife Prue is the boss. With care, the Henschke winery combines traditional winemaking and modern pressing techniques. The first fermentation, for example, takes place according to ancient tradition in open tanks. The wines are nuanced, elegant and yet powerful.

The future is secure

Stephen and Prue's children are now also involved in the successful Henschke wine business. Johann, the eldest, has been working alongside his parents in the winery and vineyards since graduating with a "Master in Viticulture and Oenology" in 2012. His sister Justine took over the demanding job of Marketing & Public Relations Manager in 2015. Andreas the youngest is still in training as an engineer. His parents are confident that he too will one day work in the Henschke Cellars wine business.

Henschke - Winery of the Year

Henschke impressively proves that absolute top wines can also be produced on the fifth continent, characterized by the type of soil and the microclimate. Australia's most important wine critic, James Halliday, has awarded the winery "Winery of the Year 2021" for this.
