The forefathers of viticulture
In the heart of the Cape winelands lies the Neethlingshof Estate, one of the oldest wineries in South Africa. Wine has been produced here since as early as 1692. Originally founded by a German immigrant named Willem Barend Lubbe, it now produces high-quality wines from the Western Cape. Since 2003, they have also been pursuing an active biodiversity strategy in order to limit the monoculture of wine.
Everything a wine lover’s heart desires
The estate cultivates many different grape varieties, including well-known ones such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc, but also the varieties typical for South Africa such as Pinotage, Gewürztraminer and Riesling.
With their south and southwest orientation, the vines soak up a lot of sun during the day, while at night they are cooled by cold sea air. As a result, the growth process is rather slow, which gives the grapes a ripe aroma.
