Quinta da Lixa was founded in 1986 by the Meireles family and has remained continuously family-owned ever since. Far up in the north of Portugal, in the Minho region known for fresh white wines, the Meireles family has dedicated itself to producing sparkling Vinho Verde, Portugal’s most famous white wine.
Quinta da Lixa – pure Vinho Verde

At first, the vineyards of Quinta da Lixa were all located around the town of Vila da Lixa, but the yield soon was no longer sufficient to satisfy the ever-increasing demand for Quinta da Lixa wines. The world of connoisseurs had long since realized that Vinho Verde was “en vogue”. So Quinta da Lixa was purchased and has since served as the company’s namesake.
The winery’s success has continued to grow ever since, so that in the meantime a whole series of additional quintas have been acquired and added to Quinta da Lixa, namely
- Quinta de Corredoura
- Quinta de Souto
- Quinta de Nova
- Quinta de Sanguinhedo
- Quinta dos Lagareiros
Today, the grapes for the wines of Quinta da Lixa ripen on an impressive 105 hectares and delight the palates of wine lovers all over the world. The focus is mainly on white grape varieties.

The grape varieties of Quinta da Lixa
- Alvarinho
- Loureiro
- Vinhão
- Trajadura
- Arinto
- Azal
- Espadeiro
- Touriga Nacional
Of course, the classic Vinho Verde grape varieties Alvarinho, Azal, Loureiro and Trajadura occupy the largest share of the vineyard area of Quinta da Lixa. They usually grow on pergolas so that the grapes are protected from the sun by the foliage and do not lose too much acidity during the ripening phase.
