Sallier de La Tour Winery - a dream in Sicily

The Sallier de la Tour winery once belonged to the family of the same name. The last owner from this family, Filiberto, sold the estate near Palermo in 2008 to his cousin, the owner of the Tasca d'Almerita group. Since then, the winery has been owned by the company and since then has focused on one grape variety: Syrah. Tasca's goal is to make an international wine variety of the island of Sicily its own and to create a name for this Sicilian Syrah. The road to get there is not easy, but Tasca believes in his project.

The Syrah - the heart project of Sallier de La Tour

The grape varieties of Sallier de La Tour are:

  • Syrah (three different variations)
  • Grillo
  • Inzolia
  • Nero d'Avola

The municipality of Monreale is one of the well-known wine-growing regions around Palermo. Some of the most famous wineries in Sicily are located here. Sallier de la Tour can also profit from this top terroir.

The cellar of the estate

Two Syrah wines are produced by Sallier de la Tour, along with three other single-vineyard wines made from the aforementioned grape varieties, two of them red and one white. In addition, a Syrah rosé will be vinified. While the white Inzola and the Madamarosè are completely vinified in steel tanks, Sallier de la Tour uses partial barrel aging (approx. 30%) for all red wines, and complete barrel aging in the case of the Syrah flagship La Monaca. Maturation lasts 12-14 months.

Environmental protection at Sallier de La Tour

The Tasca Group, and thus also Sallier de La Tour, is part of the SOStain initiative, a sustainability movement in Sicily for viticulture. The protection of the ecosystem is an integral part of this, manual labor, renunciation of environmentally harmful plant protection and integrative methods are the cornerstones of the certification. For example, no more than 0.6 kWh of energy may be used in the production of a bottle, or no bottles larger than 0.75 liters may be filled.
