Ohlig Sparkling Wine Cellar on the Rhine
For the Sektkellerei Ohlig, sparkling wine is a little piece of joie de vivre. Something special. Since 1919, the family-run cellar in the Rheingau has been producing exceptional sparkling wine, right in Rüdesheim on the Rhine. And already in the fourth generation. Many years of experience and the skill of the cellar masters guarantee the highest enjoyment for the special moments of everyday life. With their branded sparkling wines you celebrate every occasion as it comes.

Ohlig Sparkling Wine Cellar – Apprenticeship and Commuter Years
Had Anton Ohlig already heard of the flourishing business with sparkling wine, of Jules Robin’s work in Koblenz and the sparkling wine experiments conducted there? Or was it his love of fruit growing that drove him after his school days? We do not know. In any case, he maintained his thirst for knowledge and decided to study at the Royal Prussian Institute for Fruit and Wine Growing in Geisenheim. Only a few students completed the course each year, which at that time was still designed as a general degree in fruit, wine and horticulture. Anton Ohlig was among them and moved to Rüdesheim. He also regularly travelled back to his home. His studies in viticulture and cellar management were rated as “commendable”, his diligence as “excellent”. On 22 February 1896 he received his leaving certificate and signed on as cellar master with »Ewald & Co.«, the legal successor to the Rüdesheim sparkling wine pioneers »Ewald & Dietrich«, later the Rüdesheim wine cellar.

Ohlig Sparkling Wine Cellar – 100 Years of Sparkling Wine Tradition
The hundred-year history of the Sektkellerei OHLIG began on an autumn day, not far from Rüdesheim station in the midst of the bustling old town. According to oral tradition, the founding date is 1 October 1919 and the first company name was: Rheingauer Schaumweinkellerei OHLIG & Co.. A corresponding reference to this can be found in a newspaper dated 3 November 1919. In the Rheingauer Bote it said: “Through the mediation of Mr Heinz, the residential house of Miss Sophie Jung here passed by purchase into the possession of the gentlemen cellar master Ohlig and Karl Heymach.” Another newspaper clipping from this period reads similarly: “The residential house of Miss Sophie Jung... has passed by purchase into the possession of the gentlemen Karl Heymach and cellar master Ohlig, who are founding a sparkling wine cellar.” An entry in the Rüdesheim city archive is also dated 1919: the founding of the sparkling wine cellar. From the very beginning, Anton Ohlig committed himself to the maxim of quality over quantity.
