On the "balcony of the Marche" on the east coast of Italy lies the Tavignano estate. Stefano Aymerich di Laconi and Beatrice Lucangeli acquired the estate in 1975 and began to restore it carefully. It would take until 1990 before they decided to produce wine themselves. In contrast to the fashion of the time to grow internationally renowned grape varieties, Beatrice and Stefano decided to focus on autochthonous grape varieties.

The Tavignano Estate

The core is the typical grape variety of the region, the Verdicchio. They sought help from professionals in the wine sector such as Giancarlo Soverchia and Pierluigi Lorenzetti. in 2006, the estate's Misco Reserva won the Tre Bicchieri (Three Glasses) for the first time, and since then the portfolio has won awards more frequently.

The estate owns a whopping 230 hectares, completely contiguous on a hill overlooking the valleys of the Esino and Musone rivers. However, only 30 of them are used for viticulture. The estate is located in the appellations of the wines Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi DOC and Rosso Piceno DOC. Since 2014, it has been completely converted to organic farming, already minimizing the impact on the environment. The natural resistance of the plants is increased to make any chemical pest control unnecessary.

While 17 hectares are planted with Verdicchio, Passerina, Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Lacrima, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot can still be found in the vineyards. The Verdicchio vines grow on clay-limestone soils, while the others ripen on sandy soils with gravel overlay in a former quarry. The harvest takes place exclusively by hand, in the coolest hours of the day.

The cellar

The cellar has modern tanks for fermentation, with capacity ranging from 25 to 100 hectoliters. For barrel aging there are barriques and large oak barrels of Slavonian oak. The white and rosé wines are aged on the lees.
