The whiskies are made from 100% barley grown exclusively in Japan. The distillation takes place at the Sakurao distillery, which has been located in the city of Sakurao in Hiroshima Prefecture since 1918. This whisky matures in bourbon barrels in an old railway tunnel at the foot of Mount Osorakan in Akiota-Togouchi.
