Wines from the Languedoc
Groupe Uccoar is one of the largest winegrowing communities and wine merchants in France. founded in 1976, the group today represents over 1550 members with a total area of 10000 hectares in Languedoc-Roussillon. Country wines(Vin de Pays) make up the bulk of Uccoar's products, along with table wines, quality wines and also some non-alcoholic varieties. in 1980, a subsidiary was founded in Bordeaux in order to be able to offer wines from this region in the future.
From Roman times to today
Languedoc has a long winemaking tradition dating back to Roman times. It was cheaper to grow than to import, and so began the history of wine in the region. High-quality viticulture has been practiced since about the 1970s, and the protected designation Vin de Pays d'Oc dates from that time. Although many wines do not have an AOC appellation, they are quite equal to their protected cousins from Bordeaux.
The vineyards stretch along the coast for about 240 km, with dry and hot summers, so only olives and vines are hardy enough to survive here. Rainfall is short and heavy, which exacerbates the situation.
