Vinosìa - the soul of Irpina

Vinosìa is a viticultural project of the winemaker Luciano Ercolino. The winery is located in Irpinia in southern Italy. The area is an ancient land, settled for a long time and today with nature and medieval villages tell their story, which is also significantly influenced by viticulture. As early as 1887, grandfather Francesco laid the foundations of the winery that would later become Vinosìa. In 2004, brothers Mario and Luciano founded Vinosìa here and have since ambitiously built a young, flexible company that represents the tradition of the area with its wines. 

The vineyards of Vinosìa

Although the home of Vinosìa is Campania, today the winery also has vineyards in Salento in Puglia. Two areas that could not be more opposite - Irpinia is rocky, dominated by mountains, while the picturesque Salento has sea exposure. 

The vineyards in Irpinia are characterized by volcanic rocks, where precious autochthonous grape varieties thrive:

• Falanghina
• Greco di Tufo
• Fiano di Avellino
• Aglianico

The winery has a total of 20 hectares around the towns of Avellino and Taurasi to produce wines full of character.

In Salento, the winery uses the vineyards of the Emera winery, which Mario Ercolino has leased. The soils are composed of limestone, clay and sandstone. Here it is hot all year round, but the nearby sea provides cooling in the vineyards. In these grow the classic grape varieties Negroamaro and Primitivo.

Winery craft at Vinosìa

The winery produces white, red and also rosé wines. Specially selected yeasts are used for fermentation. The white and rosé wines are aged in steel tanks and not too long to maintain their freshness and liveliness. For the red wines, on the other hand, Vinosìa uses French oak barrels, in which the wines are aged for a long time before being drawn into the bottle and re-aged in the bottle for several months. The barrels are regularly renewed, depending on the wine, a certain proportion of these new barrels are used.
