Top Riesling from top sites - the Mosbacher winery
Characterful and distinctive Rieslings from world-renowned sites - the Georg Mosbacher winery knows what it has. And what it makes of it is certainly among the best that the Palatinate has to offer.

The Mosbacher winery from Forst, southwest of the Rhine, has been in existence since 1921 and has been a VDP Prädikat winery since 1993. From founder Richard Mosbacher to the current management team of Sabine Mosbacher-Düringer and Jürgen Düringer, the 22 hectares of vineyards have always been family-owned.
Mosbacher sites in and around Forst
Great sites, first sites, world-famous sites - the vineyards around Forst and Deidesheim offer the winery ideal conditions for fresh wines with a strong character. Efforts were made early on to qualify the sites. Today, they are almost all among the highest-rated sites in Germany for the cultivation of the grape varieties Riesling, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blanc.
In addition to a harmonious townscape, quaint names, it is above all the soils and the dignified climate, which is why the Mosbacher winery uses the land with care and sustainable organic viticulture. Because it is only through the protection of biodiversity and the living soil that the consistent quality philosophy results in the award-winning wines. A win-win situation for nature and winery.

Peculiar proper namesSome of the vineyards have a strange sounding name, such as Ungeheuer, Gerümpel or Mäushöhle. What kind of monster must there have been, so that the vineyard bears this fantastic name? No monster, just a town clerk named Johann Adam Ungeheuer, who lived in Deidesheim in the 17th century. Mäushöhle suggests a dark cave in which thousands and thousands of mice burrow. Apparently, only the Maus family, who owns this "dump", has been rooting. And in the course of the years the word "Halde" changed more and more into "Höhle" (cave). If one looks for garbage or the like on the vineyard dump, one will not find anything. However, if you search the city archives for the former owner of this slope, you will come across the family name Grympel. |
Wines with their own style from organic cultivation
Both white and red grape varieties are cultivated on the vineyards of the winery. Primarily Riesling is grown on about 77% of the vineyard area. The rest is made up of Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Blanc, Merlot and Dornfelder. Each grape variety enjoys a living and green environment, yield reduction, selective hand harvesting and gentle processing in the cellar.
Finally, the team around the Mosbacher family creates wine in three quality classes, each bursting with fruit and freshness depending on the profile. The focus of the estate wine is the grape variety, while the local wine presents the local character. At the top of the quality pyramid is the Riesling wine from the Erste and Große Lagen. With it, one experiences the unmistakable character of the terroir and vital aromas - a first-class pleasure. The international trade press agrees and honors the Mosbacher winery and its wines with prizes, awards and high scores at tastings. And if the Wine Advocate, Vinum and Gault& Millau like the wine, then the Georg Mosbacher winery must be on the right track with their vinophile philosophy.
