Quality with system - beyond the borders
Just reading the name Gross could create a certain expectation in one or the other. If this is indeed the case, the Gross winery will not disappoint. More than 20 growths are processed here: From the basic line with Welschriesling and Sämling (Scheurebe) to local wines such as Morillon, Sauvignon Blanc to various Rieden wines from Morillon, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer, as well as the two flagships of the farm, Muskateller and Sauvignon Blanc. From all of them you can expect and taste high quality, even the supposedly simpler qualities know how to convince.

Just as connoisseurs appreciate the products of the Gross Winery, Alois Gross, father of Michael and Johannes, appreciates the work of his sons. He finds the following words in this regard:
"My sons are mega cool at work. We have a really great interplay and complement each other brilliantly."
Critics can be convinced here
The consistency with which the three-tier system with regional wines, local wines and site wines is celebrated in this winery is remarkable. One notices exactly what belongs to the base, what fits as a figurehead of the small village of Ratsch and finally, what embodies the top class of the house in connection with a Rieden designation such as Nussberg, Perz, Herrenberg and Sulz.
"This system is of elementary importance for us. Above all, the site wines are the essence of a patch of earth. They have a very unique character due to their origin and are particularly storable"
michael Gross, whose father Alois Gross started the winery almost 40 years ago when he was just 18 years old, makes this clear. He handed over responsibility early on to Michael and Johannes bit by bit more than ten years ago. Today, as in the past, the recipes at Gross include yield limitations in the vineyard, gentle aging in the cellar, and playing for time. The most important varieties are Sauvignon Blanc, with its enormous range of flavors, and Muskateller, with its spicy aromas and great radiance, which convinces even the prejudiced of the potential of this variety.

Cultivation also outside the homeland
In addition, but with great commitment, the brothers have been cultivating 18 hectares of steep terraced vineyards in neighboring Slovenia, 60 kilometers south of the border, in the fields of the wine village of Gorca for about ten years. Here they know how to show off with Furmint and Welschriesling. Something else is worth mentioning and contributes incidentally to the harmony in the house Gross: The wives of the young winemakers (Martina/Johannes and Maria/Michael) are sisters who get along very well and enjoy presenting wines.
