The Trenz winery looks back on a long history, which already spanned 105 years when, in the Rheingau, more precisely in Johannisberg, late harvest wine (Spätlese) was discovered in 1775. Over 230 years later, Trenz is among the great estates in the Rheingau and in 2008 was named “Discovery of the Year” by the Gault Millau Wine Guide.

The secret of success of the Trenz winery

The success of the Trenz winery is not only based on excellent work in the vineyard and cellar, but also on old vines, which make more complex wines possible. Strongly limited yields further increase extract and must weight. The final touch is provided by a late and selective hand harvest, as well as the gentle pressing of the grapes.

Since 2002, the Trenz winery has been cultivating two hectares of vineyards in South African Stellenbosch under the name “TRENZ 2two”. Here wines from the grape varieties Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc are vinified and matured in barriques into powerful, spicy red wine cuvées.

Commitment and passion have earned recognition. In 2008, the Trenz winery was distinguished by Gault Millau as Discovery of the Year with 2 grapes.

The innovations continue: since November 2016, the Trenz winery has been producing a handcrafted Riesling GIN in cooperation with the Birkenhof distillery from the Westerwald.

And anyone who feels the urge to own a vine themselves, to tend it, harvest the grapes and drink their own wine, can become a hobby winemaker at the Trenz winery by leasing a vine.
