Winery Zur Schwane - modern Franconian wine

The Zur Schwane w inery is located in Volkach in southeastern Lower Franconia. The winery is dedicated to the production of authentic, but cosmopolitan Franconian wines. It is managed by Ralph Düker and Eva Pfaff-Düker, who took over the winery from their parents in 1997. With them also dawned a new era, they began to expand the vineyard area and modernize the wine style of the estate. They are supported by Christian Kallisch, who manages the winery oenologically, cellar master Stefan Ott and Alexander Goldmann in sales. In addition to the winery, Zur Schwane also operates two restaurants in Volkach, one of which has even been awarded a Michelin star.

The home of the wines from Zur Schwane Winery

Viticulture at the Zur Schwane winery is concentrated in the Main Valley. It is characterized by steep slopes with shell limestone soils, which have a clay layer. The region lies in the transition area between continental and maritime climate. In this region, the Zur Schwane winery grows the following grape varieties:

• Silvaner
• Pinot Blanc
• Riesling
• Pinot Noir
• and others in small quantities, e.g. Bacchus, Kerner, Zweigelt

The focus here is particularly on the Silvaner, which the winery Zur Schwane sees as its representative grape variety, which is represented in the best form in all quality levels.

For the best wines in the portfolio, the winery draws on its top sites:

• Volkacher Ratsherr - Große Lage, steep slopes with up to 60% inclination, rather dry through the Spessart, which blocks the rain
• Am Lumpen 1655 - Great site, fillet piece of the Escherndorfer Lumpen, high humidity in autumn with good suitability for botrytis wines
• Escherndorfer Lump - first site
• Escherndorfer Fürstenberg - first site

Wine, sparkling wine, delicatessen - here everybody finds something

Four quality levels of still wine are offered by the Zur Schwane winery: Gutswein, Ortswein, Erste Lage and Große Lage. In addition, the estate also produces sparkling wine, selections and fruit brandies. In addition to wine production, delicatessen is also produced. The wines of the house show mainly a mineral style. The wines are mainly aged in modern stainless steel tanks, but for higher-quality products the wooden barrel is also used more often.
