The Australian sun in a glass

The Yalumba winery is located near Barossa in southeastern Australia. It was founded by the Hill Smith family back in 1849. Today Yalumba belongs to Australia's top class of wineries and is already managed in the 5th generation by Robert Hill Smith. It is thus the oldest Australian winery that is still family-owned. Robert Hill Smith was enthusiastic about the wine trade and production since his childhood. One believes this even more when one knows with what passion and love the entire family operates on the winery. Since Robert is 19 years, he lived out this passion for first-class wines in the in-house winery. In the assortment of Yalumba wine connoisseurs will find selected, Australian top wines that perfectly reflect the country and its people.

Barossa - cradle of top wines

At the beginning of Yalumba's history, the estate owned about 120 hectares of vineyards, today it is no less than 500 hectares. Yalumba 's Cabernet Sauvignon is the absolute front-runner: it is the most important grape variety with 80 hectares - followed by Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Merlot. The total winegrowing area is distributed among different regions. For example, numerous vineyards are located in Barossa - one of Australia's most popular wine regions - as well as in Barossa Valley, where the reddish-brown soil is significantly more fertile than in other parts of the country. The other regional growing areas from the Yalumba winery are in Eden Valley, Coonawarra and Wrattonbully.

In the dark is good ...harvest!

For the quality of the first-class wines is not least the harvest at night also crucial, because then the cooler temperatures can be ideally exploited for the harvest. Winemaker Hugh Reimers has no doubt that this nighttime approach is the key to the high quality of Yalumba 's wine. The Yalumba winery is now known far beyond Australia's borders for outstanding wines. With a red or white wine from Yalumba, you can literally taste the warm sun of the country with every single sip.
