The history of the winery A. Christmann in Gimmeldingen in the Palatinate goes back to the end of the 19th century.
Weingut A. Christmann – wines from premier sites
The brick manufacturer Johann Martin and his cousin, history professor Dr. Ludwig Häusser, acquired a small winegrowing estate near Neustadt an der Weinstraße purely as a hobby. At the beginning of the 20th century, the daughter of the professor’s son married Eduard Christmann. Their second son Arnold gave the estate the name it still bears today: Weingut A. Christmann.
In 1996, the parents of Steffen Christmann handed over management of the winery to the law graduate. Since then, he has been running the family estate now in the 7th generation, and succession also seems secured. His daughter Sophie has already completed her studies in viticulture and oenology in Geisenheim. Steffen Christmann converted the estate to biodynamics. He manages the winery always with the awareness that it is only on loan for stewardship for the coming generation. For him and his family, viticulture means pure passion in harmony with nature.

With the right relationship, things work out at Weingut A. Christmann
Steffen Christmann of Weingut A. Christmann attaches great importance to maintaining personal contact with the vines. Together with his team, he relies on manual work in the vineyard for as many work steps as possible. This includes, among other things, removing the leaves from the vines. This enables the grapes to dry quickly after rain and ensures good ventilation of the vines. Manual work plays a major role in the meticulous, nature-oriented cultivation of the vineyards at Weingut A. Christmann. Only grapes with optimal ripeness after harvest make it to the winery and into the press. They are the guarantee of the highest quality. Above all, the Riesling wines, which with more than two thirds of the area are the dominant variety, rank among the best dry Rieslings in all of Germany year after year. They set benchmarks for the category of Erste and Grosse Gewächse. In addition to Riesling, Weingut A. Christmann mainly cultivates Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc on the vineyard sites along the edge of the Haardt in melodious VDP Erste Lagen such as Gimmeldinger Biengarten, Ruppertsberger Spieß and Deidesheimer Paradiesgarten.
