Romate a Spanish story
As early as the end of the 18th century, the bustling streets of Jerez de la Frontera bore witness to the spirit of a city profiting from the export of its famous wines. The boom in the wine business attracted businessmen from half the world. Nevertheless, it is the Spaniard Juan Sánchez de la Torre who, in 1781, lays the foundations of the company Sánchez Romate Hermanos, one of the few producers that remains in local ownership.
In addition to firmly establishing his products on the market and for the quality of his wines, Juan Sánchez de la Torre soon gained the esteem of his fellow citizens. He was an enterprising and educated man, a true representative of his time, who strongly promoted the Enlightenment, education and the arts in his town.

Romate and her Cardenal Mendoza
Over time, the company grows and successively adapts to technical innovations, while remaining closely tied to the manufacturing tradition. In 1887, more than a century after its foundation, the fourth generation of the Sánchez Romate family set another decisive benchmark when they decided to produce a brandy for private consumption, by themselves and with their closest friends. This is the birth of Cardenal Mendoza Solera Gran Reserva, the house's flagship brand.
Without having given up its independence until today, the company has lived through other significant hours. In 1909, for example, it became the official supplier of the British House of Lords, and in 1917 the official supplier of the Pope.

The Romate philosophy
From the vine to the bottle, the bodega is committed to the quality of its product and service. All the stages of production are an expression of their commitment to tradition, such as the ageing in fine American oak barrels, the distillation of brandy in copper stills and the characteristic solera-criadera system. Bodega Sánchez Romate has its vineyards in a unique microclimate the light and air of Andalusia, vines that anchor their roots deep in the white chalk soil and carefully cultivated production methods, their most famous grape varieties are:
- Palomino
- Airén
- Pedro Ximénez
