Bodega Borsao is located in Borja, northwest of the province of Zaragoza, an area that has its own peculiarities in the surroundings of the Sierra del Moncayo in the west of the province. The first writings on oenology in this region date back to 1203 and were found in the monastery of Veruela. The monks played an essential role in the development of viticulture and winemaking. It is known that the first vineyards in the area were planted in 1145. In the 19th century, private wineries were established in the Veruela area. In the 1950s, due to economic difficulties, small groups of farmers joined together to form cooperatives, which today make up the majority of the DO . Bodegas Borsao is an internationally recognized wine producer and one of the most important Garnacha producers in the world.

Bodegas Borsao is a reference for the best Spanish Grenache wines. They are one of the wineries that have best preserved and cultivated this variety. They believe in it, especially in this region, and continue to work to improve the wines produced here. Grenache is making a comeback around the world thanks to its fruit, soft tannins and pleasant aftertaste in the mouth, making it a perfect accompaniment to food. Grenache originates from Aragon, where Borja is located. Its spread in Europe is due to the expansion of the Kingdom of Aragon, which spread Garnacha through the Rhone Valley, Italy and Sardinia in the 19th century.

The slopes and valleys of Moncayo protect the 2,260 hectares of vineyards, an area in the northeast of the province of Zaragoza with a production of 9.5 million kilos of grapes.
The slopes regulate the cold, the heat and the typical north wind that gives the grape the characteristic strong fragrances that Grenache wines possess. Around 1,500 hectares of the property are home to the indigenous Garnacha, 35-year-old grapes grown on the slopes of Moncayo in a glass system and without irrigation.
