The first official winemakers of Rioja Alavesa
Bodegas Larchago is an estate owned by the Chávarri family, which has been involved in winemaking for 4 generations. The founder of the family tradition, Francisco, was the first winemaker to enter the official bottling register of Rioja Alavesa.
Feeling the terroir
Today, the Chávarris own vineyards in the Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rias Baixas and Rueda appellations. While in Rioja Alavesa the vineyards are located at high altitudes and the temperatures are comparatively cool, in Ribera del Duero extremely hot summers and very cold winters prevail, which, combined with the typical soils of the region, each give the wines their own characteristics.
Rías Baixas on the coast, on the other hand, offers sandy, mineral-rich soils with mild, rainy weather, while Rueda has a continental climate. Thus, the wines from each region offer a distinct experience.
