Bodegas Piedemonte is a winegrowers’ cooperative in Navarra. Today the company produces a wide variety of wines that bring this Spanish wine region to life.

The modern manor house

Connection of modernity and tradition

In Navarra lies the town of Olite, a historic place with over 1500 years of history. Not far from there you will find Bodegas Piedemonte, a highly modern winery. This contrast already wonderfully illustrates what Bodegas Piedemonte is all about.

The connection of tradition and modern cellar technology was what motivated four winegrowers in 1992 to join forces in a cooperative and produce quality wine. Since 2005, the estate has been part of the Navarra Wine Route, which showcases the diversity and characteristics of the region’s wine production.

The land and the wine

Grapes ripening

Today the estate owns 273 hectares of vineyards, which lie in the Navarra appellation. They extend across the Ribera Alta region, around Olite and Cadreita. Terraces shape the landscape of the first region. Despite the dry Spanish climate, the vines are not additionally irrigated.

The soil consists of clay that does not go very deep, with a high proportion of stones. By contrast, Cadreita is largely flat, with terraces found only sporadically. Without irrigation, the vines would not survive here. The stony clay soils also extend into this area.

Bodegas Piedemonte cultivates the grape varieties

  • Garnacha
  • Tempranillo
  • Merlot
  • Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Chardonnay
  • Viura
  • Muscatel
  • Sauvignon Blanc

. 19 different in-house wines are now offered.

Vineyards at dusk

"The journey of the wine through the cellar begins with the walk through the forest of steel, a pause in wood and the dream in the glass" – this is how Piedemonte describes its vinification process of stainless-steel maturation and ageing in wood and bottle, which also neatly sums up the modern production method.

Sustainable in many ways

Bodegas Piedemonte is committed to high quality in wine and therefore implemented the BRC and ISF standards for high-quality food production. The certification is renewed annually in order to guarantee a consistently high standard. In addition, Piedemonte strives to make its production as environmentally friendly as possible.

Sustainable water management, organic plant protection and the reduction of energy consumption are only the first steps being taken to ensure that excellent wines can still be produced many years into the future. In addition, the winegrowers are involved in social projects in their region and beyond.
