The traditional winery Ramon Roqueta

Ramon Roqueta - How it all began over 120 years ago

In Manresa, the winery of Ramon Roqueta Torrentó was founded in 1898. Ramon Roqueta was a resourceful businessman whose family had been closely associated with viticulture since the 12th century.

120 years and five generations later, today we can still enjoy the wines of Ramon Roqueta. Even over the long time, the winery has always been ready to adapt to changes without losing its own identity. Ramon Roqueta combines centuries-old tradition with the most modern know-how and thus vinifies wines with strong character and terroir.

La Picossa - a mountain and the Grenache grape

The wines of the La Picossa line come from the Spanish Terra Alta wine region in the province of Tarragona, Catalonia.  The name comes from the 499 meter high mountain La Picossa. It is said that the mountain was named after Pablo Picasso, who spent 8 months in Terra Alta in the village of Horta de Sant Joan in 1909 recovering from his illness.

Soil-Ramon-Roqueta

The mountainous region to the northwest of Barcelona is characterized by cool winds from the Pyrenees, which drive away the summer heat of the nearby Mediterranean Sea. Such a cool climate region is ideal for fruit-driven, elegant wines with moderate alcohol content.

Thanks to the extreme temperatures and limestone-rich soil, the Grenache grape feels very much at home in Terra Alta. Ramon Roqueta took advantage of the potential of the climate and soil characteristics to skillfully showcase Grenache with the La Picossa line.

 Wooden barrel Ramon Roqueta

Today, the estate of Bodegas Ramon Roqueta includes about 55 hectares of vineyards. Of course, great emphasis is placed on the highest quality. The wines are vinified under the designation of origin Catalonia. Fermentation takes place almost exclusively in various stainless steel vats (1,000 to 36,000 liters), taking into account an extremely discreet ageing. Subsequently, the wine is aged in barrique vaults until bottling.
