Casa di Terra - Focus on functionality and the essentials

The new Casa di Terra winery has been operating in the center of the Bolgheri DOC on the Tuscan coast since 2013. Surrounded by vineyards, the winery building is unique in the regional wine scene. The understated design and austere architecture make this steel and concrete cellar the ideal place to produce wines. A flexible, open and modern place where the environmental impact has been reduced to a minimum, both in terms of energy demand and resource consumption.

The winery currently covers 45 hectares, spread over four prestigious areas of denomination: Sondraie, Via Bolgherese, Ferruggini and Guado de'Gemoli and on the Tenuta Ladronaia in the municipality of Cecina.

Bolgheri - masterful teeroirs

The Bolgheri DOC area is located on the Tuscan coast in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci. The vineyards of Casa di Terra are protected from winds and cold winter currents by the hills to the east, while in summer the climate is tempered and cooled by the sea breeze .The numerous sunny days throughout the year and the reflection of the sea that washes the coast make the light one of the protagonists of this unique terroir.

The result of these external factors is a complete and regular ripening of the grapes with acidity, extract and sugar levels that are always balanced at the time of harvest. Above all, with grapes rich in all polyphenolic and aromatic components.

The complexity and variability of the soils of this area is outstanding. They range from gravelly soils with marine or wind deposits, volcanic rocks and limestone deposited in terraces that slope down from the hills towards the sea. The result is a unique blend of soils and conditions that form the specifications for planting the varieties of Casa di Terra's vineyards.

Every day Casa di Terra winemakers work the plots in a different way, trying to best interpret and preserve the uniqueness expressed by the grapes.

The main grape varieties from Bolgheri - Tuscany at Casa di Terra

The vines that have found a favorite place in Bolgheri and develop their own identity are mainly:

• Cabernet Sauvignon,
• Cabernet Franc,
• Merlot,
• Petit Verdot and
• Syrah.

Vermentino is instead the protagonist of our white wines.
