Champagne Drappier History

At the Drappier family vineyard, monks had already settled in the 12th century and built magnificent vaults in their cellars.
The family tree of the Drappier family does not go back quite so far, but the first mentions are counted in the 17th century. It starts in 1604 with the birth of Rémy Drappier, a cloth merchant in Reims, like Nicolas Ruinart, who was to found another champagne house. Rémy's grandson Nicolas was a representative of the crown under Louis XIV, but in 1808 François, one of the forefathers of the house, settled in Urville and began to cultivate a vineyard in the area, which today covers 55 hectares. In addition, there are some very important contractors in the Côte des Bar, the mountains of Reims and the Côte des Blancs.

Urville and its region
The Gallo-Romans planted the first vines in Urville 2000 years ago. The wine that the Romans had planted 2000 years ago grows down from the surrounding hills to your winery under the benevolent spirit of Saint-Bernard, the builder of Clairveaux Abbey. Urville and its inhabitants have embraced Pinot Noir so hospitably that one might even think the wine runs through their veins.
