Château Angludet Margaux - in the name of the knight
Château Angludet is a Bordeaux wine estate located in the Margaux appellation on the Médoc peninsula. The estate is run by Benjamin Sichel. It is one of the oldest wineries in the Médoc, with a history dating back to the 12th century. At that time, the knight Betrand de Angludet lived here, after whom the estate is also named. Actual winegrowing did not begin until around the 17th century, when the Médoc was developed for viticulture. Since 1961 the estate has belonged to the Sichel family. Although it was not classified itself for historical reasons, the estate is a member of the Union des Grands Crus Classés de Bordeaux.
Viticulture at Château Angludet
The estate has 30 hectares of vineyards, which are cultivated according to ecological standards. The soils are very gravelly, which allows good drainage. In the deeper layers of the soil, limestone is eventually found. Three grape varieties are grown:
- Cabernet Sauvignon
- Merlot
- Le Petit Verdot
The harvest is carried out exclusively by hand. Fermentation of the must takes place in concrete tanks, which are very thermally inert and thus enable gentle temperature gradients in order to preserve the natural aromas as well as possible. For maturation, classic barriques are used for one half, and terracotta amphorae for the other half.
