Located in the southern area of the Bordeaux Médoc peninsula is Château Cantemerle. Due to the unique terrain, the Château produces refined, well-balanced and complex wines.

Château Cantemerle - on gravelly ground to top quality
The soils are characterized by gravel and silica, which were deposited in the region thousands of years ago by erosion from the nearby Pyrenees and transport via the Garonne River. The small pebbles, which absorb the heat of the sunlight during the day and release it at night, give the grapes a special ripeness. Due to these nutrient-poor gravel soils and the constant plowing, the roots of the vines must penetrate into deeper layers of soil to obtain the necessary minerals. As a result, the grapes ripen in the best conditions and acquire their exceptional character.

The grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted so that only the best quality enters the fermentation process. The grapes ferment separately in large tanks before aging in barrels for 12 months. This process takes place in the beautiful neo-classical cellar house of Château Cantemerle. The Château has a total capacity of 8,000 hl. This includes 3,800 hl in wooden barrels, 2,200 hl in stainless steel tanks and 2,000 hl in concrete tanks. The Château produces about 600,000 bottles a year. Of these, about 70% are produced under the "Château Cantemerle" brand and about 30% under the secondary brand "Les Allees de Cantemerle".
